[dropcap size=big]A[/dropcap] Data Scientist analyzes large amounts of data to help companies solve a problem or gain a competitive edge. A data scientist looks at structured and unstructured data to find meaning and significance in the data. Tornado chasers use data to learn how to protect against tornadoes. Hospital networks and insurance providers use data to lower risk and maximize profits.

Good data scientists are able to apply their skills to achieve a broad spectrum of end results. Some of these include the ability to find and interpret rich data sources, manage large amounts of data despite hardware, software and bandwidth constraints, merge data sources together, ensure consistency of data-sets, create visualizations to aid in understanding data and building rich tools that enable others to work effectively. – Wikipedia
